Another blow to Muslims and Islam

It has become axiomatic for the vast majority of Muslims across the globe that whenever a terrorist attack is made in the name of Islam, or in connection to any issues related to Islamic countries, against any country in the world, be it Muslim or non-Muslim, such an attack is, in reality, directed first and foremost against Muslims and Islam. It is Muslims and Islam that lose most from such deviant, evil attacks.
The latest example of this is the recent terrorist attack in Stockholm, Sweden, attributed to a Swede of Iraqi origin named Taymour Al Abdelwahab who ended up killing himself and injuring two people in protest (we are told) against the Swedish “military presence in Afghanistan” and the negative, insulting portrayal of Prophet Mohammad by Swedish artist Lars Vilks.
Look at what happened immediately after the attack - and I am quoting verbatim from a news agency: “The botched terrorist bombing in central Stockholm last weekend is being seized upon by Sweden’s extreme right as an example of the dangers that multiculturalism and open immigration can have on the country. The attack, which caused little damage, leaving only the perpetrator dead and two others with minor injuries, is now serving as a political fodder for right-wing groups already hostile towards immigration and foreign cultures. The right is pointing to the bomber as a clear example of why Sweden should stop accepting more immigrants and promoting a multicultural society.”
How does this outcome serve Muslims and Islam? What is meant by “open immigration” in the quote above is, of course, the immigration of Muslims.
This unfortunate incident, in other words, serves primarily (perhaps I should say exclusively) the deviant aims of extremist, racist and radical groups in the West, such as the National Democrats of Sweden who have nothing but hatred for Muslims and Islam, having been quoted as calling for a rally against multiculturalism and terrorism. The party said it had warned of terrorists coming to Sweden, only to have the warnings “fall on deaf ears”.
Indeed, this misguided terrorist directly and exclusively serves the goals of the Swedish National Democrats, a dark party that is gaining some momentum in Sweden. He is not, in any way, serving the cause of Muslims and Islam.
Omar Mustafa, president of the Islamic League in Sweden, said he feared the attack could undo the years of progress made by Muslims living in Sweden.
Sweden, in particular, is (till now) a safe haven for many Muslims (including Iraqis) who emigrated to it to escape violence and conflict at home and live in peace. Sweden has always welcomed asylum seekers from all over the world, particularly the Arab and Islamic worlds. One hopes that such reckless, evil incidents do not affect Sweden’s (and other countries’) humanitarian and charitable policies in any way, because acts perpetrated by misguided individuals or groups have nothing do with Arabs and Muslims - or people of any other nationalities.
As a Muslim, I feel both sad and angry when such an act happens because it targets innocent victims, because of the damage to the reputation of Muslims and Islam, because of the implications on and consequences for Muslim immigrants in a number of countries in the West, and because Islam, a religion of non-violence and peace, never condones such acts.
Muslims all over the world condemn such evil, violent acts, irrespective of who carries them out. Another blow to Muslims and Islam.
